Committees
Like all other Monthly Meetings, Willistown Meeting has created a number of committees to further specific concerns
of the Meeting. For the most part our committees conform to the committee structure suggested by Faith &
Practice, the book Quakers turn to for guidance in Quaker life and belief. Other committees are formed on
a temporary basis for a specific purpose and draw upon individuals with specific skills and interests.
Current Committees
Budget Committee - assesses the economic needs of the Meeting, determines sources of income, and recommends an annual operating budget and membership contributions for consideration by the Meeting.
Buildings and Grounds Committee - serves as steward for the meetinghouse, outbuildings, and grounds of Willistown Friends Meeting, assuring that the upkeep of the property is compatible with the religious purposes and beliefs of Friends and with the historic fabric of the surrounding area.
Burial Grounds Committee - oversees and maintains the Willistown Meeting burial grounds.
Care and Counsel Committee - nurtures the spiritual and physical welfare of each member and attender of the Meeting in order to maintain a caring, responsive Meeting community.
Education Fund Committee - administers financial aid to children of members of the Meeting by providing a "loan without interest" to pursue their education.
First Day School Committee - organizes, oversees and assesses the success
of the religious education of the children and teenage members and attenders
of Willistown Friends Meeting.
Hidell Trust Committee - administers financial support for children of
members of the Meeting who are pursuing Quaker education (pre-kindergarten
through 12th grade). Support may also be provided for children who are
themselves independent members of the Meeting.
House Committee - serves as steward for the interior and furnishings of
the meetinghouse.
Kirk/Plumsock Committee - governed by the provisions of the J. Lewis Kirk Trust, informally called Kirk/Plumsock
Trust, this committee distributes the interest income from the trust to
worthy applicants.
Library Committee - serves as stewards of the literary resources of the Meeting in support of the spiritual growth of the Meeting community and to deepen understanding of Quaker faith and practice from their beginnings.
Nominating Committee - discerns the gifts of members and attenders in order to propose candidates for Meeting officers, committee conveners and committee members.
Outreach Committee -
Peace and Social Action Committee - promotes peace and social justice for all people in our community and throughout the world. Specifically the committee focuses on solutions to conflict which are non-violent. The committee implements the meeting's advocacy of social justice concerns, including oversight and administration of the Meeting's contribution of food, money and services to a variety of groups. The Peace and Social Justice Committee also maintains the meeting's longstanding commitment to Chester Eastside Ministries, a community church in Chester, PA.
Publications Committee - provides information about the Meeting for
members, attenders, and the larger community through the weekly announcements, monthly newsletter, and Willistown Friends Meeting website.
Trustees Committee - maintains and manages the overall business operations of the Meeting and its properties, both physical and financial.
Worship and Ministry Committee - nurtures and cares for the spiritual life of the Meeting.
