First Day School
We welcome all children from nursery school through Junior High School to our First Day School – Sundays 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. We understand and value the wide variety of religious expression in our country and the world and welcome it to our Meeting.
We encourage parents regardless of religious tradition (or the lack of it) to have confidence in our values-oriented educational program.
Each Sunday, young Friends join the adults for the first 15 minutes of meeting for
worship. Then they leave and meet for 45 minutes of instruction and activities with their children their own age group and a teacher.
Our program covers stewardship of the world and its resources, an understanding of non-violence as a better means to resolve conflict between nations, and concern for the poverty and disease which afflict people in the third world, as well as people in the United States. We also provide basic instruction in both the Old & New Testament, in addition to units on the history, spirituality and beliefs of Quakers.
It is a stimulation program involving crafts, field trips, outdoor activities, and theatrical Presentations to the Meeting. Recently, our Young Friends all contributed to making a quilt depicting themes of forgiveness and reconciliation. Young Friends also participate in service projects. The First Day School put together buckets and cleaning supplies to donate to a local social service agency.
